Confusing update

There has been a confusing algo update that took more time than usual to stabilize. According to Rank Ranger, it made the most significant impact on the positions 6-10 (not that other positions weren’t affected, but the extent wasn’t as nearly as great). Webmasters didn’t pick this one up as quickly as the tools did, though, and it took them a bit longer to react. The real consequences of this update are yet to be determined.

Fluctuations were spotted with Google local results between June 11 and June 18, indicating that they have done some major updates to their local search.

This update probably started on the 17th of May; however, while the tracking tools went bananas, it took quite a while for the webmasters to pick up on this one. There are indications that this has been some sort of a quality-related update.

New quality rater guidelines are out, specifically updated to tell the quality raters how to detect offensive, upsetting, inaccurate and hateful pages. The purpose of this is to make the algorithm more accurate when penalizing this type of websites.
